WADHAM COLL., matrix. 8 Dec., 1637, aged 17; scholar 1639-47, B.A. 4 Dec., 1641; incorporated at cambridge, 1645, fellow of PETER HOUSE, M.A. 1645, BD 1655 (Incorportaed 13 July 1669), D.D. 1673, founded a professorship of moral philosophy by will 1683, rector of Dorchester Holy Trinity 1663. In 1663 at Westminister Abbey he was also granted BD (Bachelor of Divinity. It is often written in the sources as STB, that is ‘Sanctae Theologiae Bachelor’)

"In 1677 John was "Of St Pauls, Covent Garden". The church was built by Inigo Jones in 1633.

Known as the 'Actors' church, because of its history with the theatre community, it was also the site of the first recorded performance of Punch and Judy in 1662.
